We are in a day and age where people don't seem to know what they want, when they are single they moan about not being in a relationship and vice versa. Now being currently single I can tell you I enjoy my own company, I love it being me and my little sidekick but there are things I miss about being married/in a relationship, and having another person around, namely just having another person around.
Below are 8 Things I Miss About Being in a Relationship
1. I miss being part of a couple.
Now I've been single for 2 years and it's not the worst thing in the world, as I said, I enjoy my own company, but maybe that has more to do with the fact that sometimes I can't actually stand people but I miss having another half, being part of a " WE ". The comfort of having someone to go home to, someone who is always at the end of the telephone and to spend my days with. I miss romance, I miss love. I miss having adult conversation in the evening when my daughter is in bed, I miss being Helen and ......... There is a comfort in being a " WE "
2. I miss sharing a bed.
When you become single following a long term relationship the feeling of going to bed alone can be a sad and lonely one and one I found hard to get used to. Feeling your loved ones body next to yours beneath the sheets is comforting, rolling over and feeling their body heat and cuddling up to them is security. The feeling of having another adult in the house and a male one is also a feeling of security. As a single parent if you hear a few strange noises during the night it can be a little in unnerving so it's nice to have someone to elbow and say "go check that out "
3. I miss cuddling.
I love cuddling and it's a scientific fact that cuddling releases oxytocin the " feel good " hormone, as does chocolate but I'm trying to watch my weight, so I now get my "oxytocin" fix through cuddles with my daughter. But I would love to have that special someone to help me get that fix. I miss having someone to snuggle on the sofa watching a movie with, especially now that the cold nights are coming.
4. I miss having a "go to" person.
Being on your own sucks sometimes because don't have that "go to" person, the one who no matter what shit hits the fan you know they will drop everything to be there for you. The one who has your back and you have theirs. Even the small things, like when the kids are in bed and you've run out of milk, "can you go and get some milk darling?" It's crap, I don't understand why anyone likes being single.
5. I miss kissing!
Ahh..... kissing, who doesn't love kissing. That feeling of kissing the one you love, feeling their lips on yours, on your neck and your body. I find kissing incredibly intimate and sexy and there is nothing like a passionate kiss to get you in the mood.
6. I miss sex!!
I miss the in between the sheets action. Not just any old sex, I don't see the appeal in a one night stand or the increasingly popular F**k buddy. I'd much rather pay Ann Summers another visit.
I miss making love, sex with intimacy, sex with trust, sex with love, nothing beats that kind of sex.
7. I miss believing I'd found my happily ever after.
We all want to be loved and I'm no different. I miss the feeling of possibility, the feeling of a future in a relationship, making plans together and sharing our dreams big and small. I miss not knowing who my future will be spent with and who will be sharing my dreams with me.
8. I miss the security.
I don't like dating, I never have. I hate the all the false pretenses and awkwardness. Being in a relationship gives you security, not just financial security but emotional security, you've found your guy, the one you want to plan a future with, no more dating, no more uncertainties.
I'm a hopeless romantic and my list could have been endless, I want all of the above and more, I'm much more suited to being in a relationship and I'm not getting any younger. As we get older we start to want different things from relationships, marriage and children and I don't want to waste my time on people I can't envision a secure future with, so until the right man comes along I'm happy just being me and my little sidekick, though I hope he comes along soon. So if you are my Mr Right and reading this my number is +44079..........
Are you single, what do you miss about being part of a couple? Or if you are lucky enough to be part of a " WE " what do you love most about being in a relationship?
