Hard times are there for a reason. They help us to develop courage.
You don’t develop courage by being happy in your relationships everyday. You develop it by surviving difficult times and challenging adversity.
I think too often we feel life owes us happiness. We often yearn for the life without troubles when it’s our troubles that make us who we are. Which leads me to the next quote:
Skillful pilots gain their reputation from storms and tempest.
In all honesty, I prefer my pilots seasoned by storms. I want them to develop courage to face all situations. It’s the experience with the tempest I admire. I would much rather have a life which has faced hard times and comes out a little scarred and burned. This is the type of life in which I would place trust. My scars and scorches build my courage and allow me to trust myself.
