“God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say ‘thank you’?”
-William A. Ward
Do you believe in magic? Not the type found in Harry Houdini or Harry Potter, but real life magic that can transform our lives in an instant. I have always believed in magic, but realize now it is more than casting spells or pulling rabbits out of hats.
Tonight, I want to share with you the 2 keys to creating magic in your life starting today. You won’t need a magic wand, but you will need to harness your powers of intention and gratitude. With every fiber in my being, I know practicing intention and gratitude has changed my outlook on life for the better.
First, when I start my day off with intention, I am magnifying my determination to accomplish specific goals and/or manifesting the desires of my heart. According to the Law of Attraction, it is as if I am placing an order to the Universe.
For example, when I was training for the CrossFit Open, I had never been able to do more than one double under with my speed rope. Guess what was on the first CrossFit Open WOD? You guessed it, 30 freaking double unders!
All week I was wondering how in the hell was I was going to be able do 30 double unders and clean and jerk 55 lbs?!?! However, with the help of my CrossFit girlfriends and visualizing me doing the double unders and lifting that heavy bar over my head, I DID IT.
No magic spell, just sheer intention to overcome obstacles and believing in my dreams.
Second, in order to create magic in your life, it is essential to have an attitude of gratitude. You need to be grateful for what you have. Know that there are people in this world who would kill to have your life. If you are reading this, either you can afford the cell phone bill you are reading this blog post on or you have electricity, internet and a computer in your home. You are fortunate! Start counting your blessings.
According to William Ward, “God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say ‘thank you’? When was the last time you gave thanks for the multiple blessings in your life?
Why on Earth should we expect to be blessed with more, if we aren’t even grateful for what have already been given?
Why not take a moment and write down 10 things in your life that you are grateful for today. Take that a step further and begin each morning giving thanks for everything in your life …EVERY DAY.
Listen, I get it that life can have some pretty shitty moments. We cannot change the inevitable ups and downs of living a full life. However, find the silver lining in even the darkest of clouds. My life is far from perfect, but I CHOOSE to have an optimistic outlook.
Remember when my car completely broke down on the side of the road, instead of getting upset I decided to look at my misfortune in a more positive way. During this really rough week, one of my fellow single mother friends gave me use of her spare car until I could get myself into a new car.
Despite the headache and stress of figuring out my car situation, I was blessed in so many ways. Not only did I have the chance to be free of a car payment for a year, but I valued how wonderful it was to drive a new car again. I didn’t care what my new car looked like, I was just incredibly grateful I no longer had to drive a car that was falling apart!
Sweet, sweet, sweet MAGIC my friends.
Before I go, I wanted to share a part of my life with you that has to do with performing magic in the lives of others. It is with great hope, you can help me manifest magic in the lives of other single parents in the world.
I have always wanted to bless other parents in a BIG way. After watching a wonderful Oprah episode on surprising a single mom with her ultimate wildest dreams come true, I knew I wanted to bring joy to others in a similar way.
Being a single parent is harder than I could have ever imagined. Not only is it emotionally stressful, lonely at times but financially it has been the most difficult time in my life. I know I am not the only one. Many of us struggles with paying all the bills, stretching our budgets as far as we can, suffering financial setbacks (i.e. car repairs, hospital bills, etc.) and living paycheck to paycheck while raising a family.
When I woke up this morning, it finally occurred to me that I could find a way to help others in need. Over and over I prayed on being able to help my loved ones. I didn’t have to have Oprah money to shower other single parents with blessings, all I needed was to create a little magic with a big heart. Immediately, I jumped onto the internet and opened a GoFundMe page to promote my Bless 5 Single Moms project.
My INTENTION is to raise $5,000 total to bless 5 single moms and dads who are in need of financial support. Each individual will be surprised with $1,000 to help lift them up and giving them a helping hand during this challenging time in their lives.
Maybe they can pay for groceries, get caught up on their car payments, clear their electric bill, fix their broken car, buy their kids clothes or start an emergency fund.
I just want to give from the heart because I know what it is like to struggle, not able to sleep, wondering how you are going to get to the next pay day.
Many single parents are proud and do not want to ask for help, but the need is still there. What can you do to help out another soul? Have you ever hit hard times, how did someone show you love?
In the past, I have used GoFundMe to raise money for my high school students to attend a special needs prom in Hawaii. We exceeded our goal three times over and raised over $1,000 in a short amount of time.
I know in my heart that we can do this again and continue to touch more lives. Those who are contributing to my pay it forward movement, will not only touch the lives of the parents but their children as well. I cannot wait to see their faces when I am finally able to hand them their $1,000.
I believe in the inherit goodness of people. I will not give up till I reach my goal of $5,000, so I can share the generosity of strangers to these wonderful single parents.
Always give back. Always come from love. Never give up. Never lose faith. Ask. Believe. Receive. I have lived a ridiculously blessed life and this is one way I would like to show my thanks to God for taking care of me and my son over the last five years.
