Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert’s impending divorce is all over the media these days. Let’s start at the beginning of this relationship and see if we can figure out where it went wrong.
Blake and Miranda met in 2005 when they were introduced to each other at the 100 Greatest Duets Concert. Blake was married at the time to Kanyette Williams. The two performed together on stage and they say they knew they were meant for each other. Even though they both deny an affair, they admit they knew they had feelings for each other.
Blake divorced his wife in 2006 and he began dating Miranda. He didn’t propose to Miranda until 2010, they then married in 2011. Does this mean they had an affair? They both deny that it happened but let’s face it, they are America’s Cinderella country couple. If you were them would you step up and say, “Oh yeah I cheated on my wife to date Miranda Lambert.” Come on, people. That’s about as likely to happen as it is for my husband who denied his affair twice! Men are not too willing to just fess up to that unless caught with their pants down, no pun intended.
Maybe what we want to believe is that, yes, Miranda and Blake had an affair. How scandalous would that be? Now karma comes back to bite them in the rear because one of them cheated and now they are divorcing. The fact is, no one really knows what happened except two people, Blake and Miranda. Even in Blake’s first marriage, his ex-wife has never offered to sell the story to the tabloids about why Blake divorced her. The probability of it being because he cheated with Miranda are slim. If you consider cheating that he looked at Miranda like she was a delicious chocolate bar then, yes, he cheated.
Maybe we give Blake the benefit of the doubt and realize that the way he was looking at Miranda at that time was wrong being he was married and he knew that. So he had “the talk” with his then wife and they both realized they needed to end the marriage before the sin of cheating occurred. There may have been deeper issues between Blake and his first wife and this was just the icing on the cake to end it. Think about that for a moment.
Let’s dive a little deeper into this. Miranda clearly has a closeness with her family and her love of rescuing animals. I rescued animals because I love finding them a good home where they will be loved for the rest of their lives, not to mention they are great companions. Miranda doesn’t just have one dog, she has several. My love of animals and rescuing them supposedly was one of the reasons my ex left me. He said the animals drove him insane even though two of them, the cats, were his. Maybe Blake was not an animal lover, meaning he didn’t want a farm, and he would have been happy with two dogs and a cat like most families.
Both Blake and Miranda seem to have Type A personalities which may have clashed when it came to things like Miranda sweeping up the country music awards and drowning out the few awards Blake has won. They say opposites attract, maybe in this case because they are both the same, it really does apply.
Blake took a role on The Voice which took him away from home. This distance probably never bothered them until Miranda’s tour ended and then she was home, alone, with her dogs. They, in fact, had a long distance relationship and I can tell you from experience that is difficult.
The fact that last week the two were using Twitter and comedy to promote a friend’s album shows that if an affair caused this break up, they are both either very quick in forgiving or not angry about it. We were also shown divorce papers online which did not even list the names of either of them, only initials. Since when in a court of law does it matter if you are a country singer and famous? It doesn’t. No legal court documents would only include initials.
I used to think some magazines were the real truth and even what you hear on the news is fact. Things like Brian Williams from NBC news being suspended for lying makes me wonder what is truth out there and what can we believe. I don’t think the world ended when the news came out about Blake and Miranda and within a few days there was something else on the news about another celebrity and something they were doing. Hulk Hogan, I believe it was. Your life is not going to end and your marriage is not going to disintegrate because Blake and Miranda split. I read the comments of people saying they are sad and don’t have anything to believe in anymore. So you based your entire life on two country singers marriage? Wow, that’s all I can say.
We may never know the truth and Blake and Miranda may decide to never tell. That is definitely their decision and secret to keep. It appears they have chosen to remain adults through this tough time and not bash each other in the press. They deserve to be commended for that.
I am sad because two people who got married and planned to be together forever lasted only four years. I am disappointed to see how easy it is to marry and how quickly people divorce before trying to remain together. I don’t feel people believe in forever anymore especially if they are basing their sadness on a celebrity couple’s marriage.
You want to believe in long term couples who are celebrities look at Paul Newman and his wife, Joann Woodward. He and Joann Woodward were married in 1958. He met his future wife while filming and, yes, he was married to someone else at the time. He finalized his divorce while he and Joann were secretly living together and then the two married in Las Vegas. I am sure the relationship was the talk of Hollywood then and today still is. Why? Because they were still together until his death in 2008. Now that is something to put on the gossip columns.
I don’t believe there was cheating. Whatever happened, I hope Blake and Miranda can both heal and move on. It appears they are still friends, and that is good for them. I was not able to do that with my ex. If they can be happy for each other then that is the first step to healing. Some people divorce and realize they were really in love with that person and miss them and end up back together. Maybe that is what is in the future for Blake and Miranda. Anything is possible.
