Annie Parker of Bitter Divorcee shares her Blogger Space in this series featuring the places in which bloggers choose to write. A formidable writer, woman of true grit, and the survivor of one badass divorcee, Annie Parker just might be the lovechild of Annie Oakley and Dorothy Parker.
In 1929, Virginia Woolf had the notion that a woman needed money and a room of her own to write. This is not, however, 1929.
With a keyboard, words can come much more rapidly. My writing is squeezed in around the edges of a demanding life. There are days when writing at home is impossible. Laundry whispers wash me and the pile of unsorted papers beside me beg for attention. I retreat to my favorite coffee haunt and fall off the wagon and into a decadent cup of cappuccino.
Sometimes the weight of what wants to be written chains me to the house. There is often an intimacy in writing. If a piece makes me feel naked, I like to write it in a place where I could take off my clothes and not risk arrest. In a corner of my bedroom I have a big desk. I sit on a zafu on a wooden chair and drink tea. I can cry freely there, or laugh. After the kids are in bed, I often work late into the night, curled in my cozy bed with my only bedfellow — a well-loved laptop.
