I’m on the breakup diet.
I stepped on the scale this morning and read off a number I haven’t seen in 10 years. It felt good even though the process of losing 38 pounds has been painful.
The first 15 pounds came off quickly and easily in just two weeks. That’s because I wasn’t sleeping and I certainly wasn’t eating. I was grief-stricken and spent most of my days crying or doing busy work so I wouldn’t have to think. I was a robot who didn’t need those human essentials like food or rest. During my annual checkup, my doctor told me he was happy with the weight loss but sad for the way it started. He’s a sweet man. I certainly don’t recommend the Breakup Diet, but since it was happening with or without my consent, I decided to roll with it and use it as a jumping off point.
With my new husband-less free time, I broke out an old workout DVD and got off my butt. I’ll be the first to admit that exercise is like getting a root canal for me. I’m not a huge fan. I don’t get that feel good high from endorphins coursing through my system. All I get is sweaty.
And I hate sweaty.
But I had been given a gift of losing 15 pounds so I was going to make sure that didn’t go to waste (or waist, if you prefer the pun). I downloaded this little app called LoseIt and started tracking everything. It gave me something to do other than wallowing in my sadness. And with carnivore Husband #2 out of the picture, I could eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. So having a pound and a half of fresh strawberries for dinner was no longer out of the question. I was no longer limited to meat and potatoes.
It’s been two months now and the weight loss has slowed, which is to be expected. My son bought me the P90X DVDs which I’ll try next. They are intimidating to me but I’m very close to hitting my goal…just 7 more pounds to go. Once I get there, I’ll reevaluate and decide if I want to try for another 10 pounds.
Losing 55 pounds would put me where I was when I was in my mid 20’s before my first pregnancy. That would make me a very happy (middle-aged) woman.
Thank you Husband #2 for kick-starting my Breakup Diet!
Déjà Vow says
Since May, I’ve taken off a few more pounds and maintained the loss. Which to me is the hardest part. I’ve set a new goal for 2014…15 pounds. It’s not as drastic as the 50 I’ve lost so far but it certainly will be the most stubborn.
One way or another, I’ll get those 15 off of me…via exercise or a crowbar. I just haven’t figured out the right tool yet!
