I send myself emails, much to the amusement of my seven-year-old. It’s not because I lack content in my inbox, on the contrary actually. Rather, I send them to remind myself of things to do, blog post ideas, articles for later reading and so on. This of course combines with all the other emails from companies, products, friends and family.
As I’ve posted not too long ago, I’m looking for love. Not really actively because I’m working on getting myself back first. But I’m open to it. And I have a crush. I’ve discussed this crush with a couple of friends over email. I’ve also sent myself many an email on dating tips and relationships as writing prompts. And, apparently, like the big spender who thinks he can buy his date a lobster dinner and expect a blowjob, Gmail thinks it can provide an excellent free service and judge me. I do not appreciate this.
While going through my email recently, I noticed an ad at the top of my inbox: “Why Men Pull Away: CatchHimandKeepHim.com … 10 Ugly Mistakes Women Make That Ruins Any Chances of a Relationship.” Normally I ignore these ads completely, but this time I noticed the subscript next to it that read “Why This Ad.” I took the bait and clicked. This ad was selected just for me, “based on emails to your inbox.”
Really, Gmail? Like I don’t have enough to worry about, now I’m being judged by inanimate programs. And, apparently, it thinks I’m scaring the shit out of potential men.
