“The best way to predict your future is to create it.”
-Abraham Lincoln
It has been about two weeks since I have written a CrossFit Confessions and I have quite a bit of updates to share. Due to the fact, that I am determined to be passed out by 10pm sharp, with the goal of getting exactly eight hours of sleep tonight, I am going to have to keep this bad boy as short as possible.
So let’s get this party started in 3…2…1…GO
Confession #1: Since training for the CrossFit Open, I stopped making excuses for myself, not having time to go to CrossFit, because I am a busy single mom. Guess what, we are all busy. I either wanted to make it a priiority or I didn’t want to make it a priority.
Last week, my son went to two out of the three classes with me. With his dad out of the country, for the next two weeks, my little monkey will be going with me on my training days.
Turns out, I am not the only parent who brings her child(ren) to CrossFit, there were a handful of kids Jack’s age range at class last night. Plus, he is such an easy going kid and was a complete angel, while I was working out.
I am so grateful to belong to a box that is so family friendly! Plus, my coach is a single dad, so he totally gets it! Even better, he introduced me to another new single mom to the box, and I finally got to meet her and her boys last night. It is great to meet another woman, who gets my unique challenges as a mother and as a CrossFitter.

Confession #2: I must confess, I am really hesitant of visiting other CrossFit boxes. Sometimes I feel clueless at mine, let alone going to a box of complete strangers. However, my Coach Gil, was at the Kaneohe box over the weekend, so I drove to the town over to train with him. Turns out, I had so much fun!
I guess it was good I ventured outside my comfort zone, as I will be visiting the CrossFit box in Tokyo and Bali in March!

The Sunday is Funday WOD was hard as hell. I did 400 single jump ropes, which is my bladder’s freaking nightmare?!?! After two childhood bladder surgeries and carrying around a huge baby boy in my belly, for almost a year, my bladder is shot to hell. I am pretty sure I peed myself that day. No. I am absolutely sure I peed myself that day.
Eeewwww… grossssss…right… well, guess, what, you ladies know after pushing a baby out of your vagina, it will leave you with a lifetime of “whoopsies” after sneezing or jumping.

Confession #3: I got super lazy with writing in my original CrossFit journal. I would occasionally post the WOD in my iPhone WOD application, but was NEVER consistent with my workouts or writing down my present levels of performance (i.e. lbs. I can deadlift, push press, snatch, clean, etc.)
Coach Gil is MAKING me write it in a journal, so I can feel that connection with my workouts. I can monitor my progress and set appropriate CrossFit goals.
For example, this week, I was deadlifting #80, next week I can work with this weight and move up. I don’t know why I didn’t make this connection before.
Honestly, training with my coach for the CrossFit Open, is like taking the Elements course all over again, but a one to one coach, breaking down every movement for me, so I actually GET IT.
Confession #3: I am on day two of my second Paleo nutrition challenge at my CrossFit box and I am having sinful thoughts of Wendy’s bacon burgers, smothered in chili, with a chocolate frosty shake, to wash it all down. However, all I can picture is my CrossFit coach, Coco, sitting on my shoulder, like a little angel/devil, saying, “Cheating is ridiculous!”
Instead of giving into my inner fat kid, I quiet my mind, with a reminder of why I am eating healthier again. As I fight off tempations, I read the testimonials of past challengers in the nutrition challenge and I eat my prepared healthy meals, I made at home.
Just like in the first challenge, the cravings come on strong, but eventually will subside, as I get back into my old routine.
Eating healthy is all about mind over matter. I want to decrease my body fat percentage, increase muscle mass, lose inches, be ready for my next Pin Up photoshoot in a bathing suit and LOOK great naked when I go to the hot springs in Japan in March. I could care less what the scale says anymore, I actually put it back on my top shelf in my bathroom closet.

Now that I am back on a stricter Paleo and clean eating regiment, I will be blowing up all my friends’ Facebook and Instagram newsfeeds with avocados, eggs, bacon, #paleo and #eatcleantrainmen.
Just giving you a heads up everyone!
It is hilarious, because before anyone at work tries to offer me food, they immediately say, “PALEO???”
Now here is my FAVORITE, part of the whole challenge, I actually get the best sleep of my life. I earn points for getting 7 or 8 hours of sleep! Not only do I get to earn points, but I am reaping the benefits of getting a great night’s sleep.
Not only do I have more energy, but I deal with life’s daily stressors with ease, because I feel clear headed and ready to take on the challenges.
For Christmas, Jack’s dad and step mom bought me a FitBit Force and I LOVE it. I monitor my sleeping on this, as it is attached to my iPhone.
Plus, it is a pedometer, counts my calories I have burned, sleep, plus it is a sleek watch.
Overall, it has been an amazing week in CrossFit. I have learned to stop making excuses for myself, just because I am a busy divorced single mom, discovered the joys of another “box”, cleaned out my diet again, obtained new bests at CrossFit, had FUN, met new cool people and getting some sleep for the first time in months. I am looking forward to what the next few weeks will bring me!
How many hours of sleep do you get a night?
What is your favorite work out?
Love,
Sweet Cicily
