“Home is where the heart is.”
I cannot believe it has been five years, since I have been living on my own, as a single mom. Honestly, it is incredibly surreal, because it feels like it has always been this way, as if I was never even married.
After filing for my divorce, I lived in my marital home, I bought with my ex husband, for a year, until putting it on the real estate market. I remember it being one of the scariest steps taking, during the process of getting a divorce.
Where would I live? How could I afford to rent in the ridiculously expensive Hawaii? What would happen to me and Jack?
Fortunately, I found a wonderful condo, just down the street from the home I was selling. I remember the very moment my application was approved and picking up the keys to my very first home of my own.
My home is tiny, expensive, but ABSOLUTELY perfect for my small family. I am blessed to remain in the town that I have grown to love.
Over the past few years, we have turned this house into a home. When I was married, everything was designed and decorated to the tastes of the man I was married to. Now that I was starting over on my own, I could do what I pleased with the walls, the linens, up keep, etc. Nothing was more liberarting than to create my own home.
Long before I was married or had a baby, I dreamt of a home filled with walls covered in picture frames, filled with the faces of my loved ones and childrens’ artwork spread all over the walls.
I don’t want to live in a perfect home straight out of Pottery Barn or an Ethan Allen catalog. Not that it is wrong, but just not to my own liking. My home would be evident of lots of laughter, drawing, playing, and gatherings.
Tonight, I am sharing with you, a glimpse inside my home, where we paint on blank walls, fill the nooks and crannies with inspiration and turn the living room in family camping movie nights.
I love our home. I am grateful I live here. I don’t desire anything more than what I have….because it is my piece of paradise.
I hope you enjoy the short photograpic tutorial on how to create a wall for your childrens’ artwork and a fun chalkboard. Not only is it easy, but budget friendly.
Home is where the heart is. Have fun turning your house into a heart filled home.
