“A friend may be waiting behind a stranger’s face.”
– Maya Angelou
Today is a very special day, as it is my best friend Ivy’s birthday. I wanted to dedicate tonight’s blog post, to one of the most wonderful women in my life. By the time she wakes up, thousands of miles away, it will be her birthday.
Happy Birthday Ivy. I wish I was there to bake you a cake, sing you a song and throw a big party, to celebrate another great year in your life. You are an amazing human being and I am beyond blessed to call you my friend.
It always amazes me, how there is always a a friend waiting behind a strangers face. Who would have guessed that the girl from Western Australia and the girl from a small southern town in the United States, would become best friends.

Happy Birthday From Hawaii
G’Day Gorgeous Girl
Happy Birthday!
Almost four years ago, I first met Ivy at the Yard House in Waikiki, when I first began dating my ex boyfriend. After a few months, fresh into our relationship, he wanted to introduce me to his closest friends, Fred and Ivy. I will never forget when he said, “You are going to love Ivy.” He was absolutely right.
However, our friendship didn’t start out so smoothly, because when we first met, I spilled beer all over her. There is not doubt, I am an absolute clutz. Imagine my horror, as I spilled beer all over this stranger, who I was hoping to impress. Ivy still teases me about our first night out. Honestly, I didn’t expect much after meeting Ivy, in terms of friendship, as she was moving shortly to Alaska with a military move.
Our First Picture Together
We soon became friends on Facebook, as we had her friend and my boyfriend in common. He is what brought us together. I know now, in my heart, that he was in my life, in order for me to find my best friend Ivy.
Although my relationship ended, the very next year, Ivy was loyal to our friendship. I am ashamed to admit, I almost gave up on one of the most beautiful friendships I’ve ever had, after my break up with my ex boyfriend. When he broke my heart, it pained me to see reminders of him in my life. At the time, I thought erasing all associations with my ex boyfriend, would eventually lessen my heartache.
When you are hurting, you don’t always think clearly, so I made the choice to remove Ivy from my Facebook. Although, she was hurt, she understood my reasons, patiently waiting for me to turn the corner.
I am so grateful to God for her beautiful heart. I have never met anyone quite like Ivy. She embodies grace, love, peace, kindness, humility, faithfulness, loyalty, love, patience, and gentleness. Being friends with Ivy makes you want to become a better person.
Ivy Recently Visiting Hawaii
I hope she knows just how much I adore and love her. Not a day goes by, that I don’t talk, text or write her. We have shared the joys of motherhood, marriage, divorce, offer advice, venting, funny dating stories, cooking, exercising, fellowshipping in our shared faith, laughing, crying, crying from laughing and developing a sisterhood bond.
High Fives Across The Miles
Despite the thousands of miles that separates us from Hawaii to Puerto Rico, our friendship has never been stronger. Whether she realizes it or not, Ivy has inspired me to grow in love, live my life and understand what is most important in the world.
I admire her commitment as a wife, her dedication as a mother, her selflessness in friendship and her heart for God.
Aside all of these wonderful character traits, Ivy is funny as hell, my kind of weirdness, unapologetically honest, is the only hot woman I know that makes kale fart jokes and has the coolest Australian accent ever.
Have you ever had a friend, you know for certain, will be around to the very end? Well, that is my sweet Ivy.
In life, there are three types of people :
1) the leaves (while there are many covering the tree, when the wind blows, they fall off the tree and fly away, coming and going with each season)
2) the branches (they seem strong, but eventually they break off, nevering grow back)
3) the roots (your tree only need a few roots, to build your foundation and hold the tree together and they will never go away)
I am honored that Ivy is one of the roots in my life. Despite the seasons changes, she will ALWAYS be there to provide me nourishment and keep me grounded. I love her with all my heart, soul and all that is in my existence.
So, go go go go shorty it’s your birthday! We’re gonna party like it’s yo birthday! Have a great time my love!
