Hola! For the first time in my life, I’m traveling solo.
And discovering that it’s not for me.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m having a great time! My days are filled with activities, I’ve made new friends in and out of the solo travelers’ group, and I haven’t felt lonely for one second. I dance, I sing, I eat, I answer trivia, and I exercise.
I dance, I sing, I eat, I answer trivia, hit the shows, eat an insane amount of dessert, and I exercise. But at night, when I lie in bed thinking about the day, I miss having someone to share the memories with, who was there to join me in doing the “Cupid Shuffle” or the “Electric Slide” or “Play That Funky Music White Boy”.
Who knew there was a line dance to Wild Cherry???
I’m dancing, and singing, and moving to the groovin’… And just when it hits me… I realize in 20 years, when I’m older, I’ll be the only one holding on to this memory. No one else will be a part of this 18 day creme brulee filled window in my life. At least, no one I know.
The people in line dance class watch for me. My trivia group asks about my Zumba class, which immediately precedes Morning Trivia. My dinner companions ask how my day went. But I will never see these people again once I disembark from this ship.
I’m glad I took this trip to Spain. It was fantastic. But like escargot, I tried it and determined it wasn’t for me.
When I get back home, I dive into a new date with the Tall Man. At least I’ll have something interesting to talk about.
So if you love solo travel, MORE POWER TO YOU! That’s awesome with some super awesome sauce slathered on top with an awesome cherry of awesomeness. Go to town with your bad self!
It’s just not my cup of Madiera wine.
Which is really hard to polish off in one sitting if you are by yourself.
