What am I talking about? How can you exfoliate your life? I mean, I know what exfoliation means as it relates to taking care of your skin. But how can you exfoliate your life? And exfoliate life after divorce? Well, let’s look at this a little deeper…
Exfoliate your life after divorce.
Exfoliation means the removal of the oldest dead skin cells from the skin’s surface. The benefit of exfoliating your skin is that it gives you a more radiant glow and unclogs your pores and draws out the impurities. So couldn’t the same be said if you exfoliated your life after divorce. Shedding the dead layers of your past and the people in it and moving away from the impurities and toxicities that divorce can leave you with? I say yes!
As your life changes, so will your circle.
I found that as I was discovering life after divorce, I had to become acquainted with what felt like a new world. My new world. And what I learned shortly into it was that I could not surround myself with people who had limited and fearful attitudes. I needed every inch of strength that I had inside of my soul. There was no room for people who had a desire to rob me of any nourishment of it.
People who shared their fears of my future were soon persona non grata. If I gave them an audience there was no one who felt more spent than me. And oftentimes their negativity had no effect on their own lives whatsoever. They were able to experience a little drama from my life with no risk to their own. It was me that was left holding a big bag of fear which did nothing but increase my anxiety and fill me with doubt. I learned that the price of those so-called friendships was too high because the actual price was my well-being.
Exfoliating the people in my life….scrubbing away the negative ones, and keeping and adding new people who nourish me with positive energy serve me well. I feel stronger around people who have dreams and who encourage me to dream too. Just because I am divorced doesn’t mean that my life is over. It doesn’t mean that I am destined to be alone and live impoverished. Surrounding myself with people who really care about me is critical. People who feed me with positive energy and who do not starve my energy with their heaviness. So I say scrub away the old and make way for the new!
The unknowns that come with divorce.
Fear. It’s such a powerful word. And it is a true motivator. It can get people to act and react to everything. But fear, as it relates to divorce, can sometimes paralyze you. And the thought of starting over and reinventing yourself and your family seems almost impossible at times. The unknowns that come with divorce are too many to count, and no matter what, they can be scary.
Exfoliating fears as a result of an unhealthy marriage that resulted in divorce is a good thing too! There is no need to carry the dead weight of fear into your future. Leave it all in the past. You have better things to do with your amazing new life than give your old fears any more of your new energy! F.E.A.R. False Evidence Appearing Real. Don’t feed what isn’t even real.
Attitudes and doubt you carry.
Which leads me now to exfoliating you! And by that, I don’t mean your skin. Though you can start there if you want! What I mean is exfoliation of the attitudes and doubts that you may carry about yourself as a result of divorce. When I first became divorced the only word that came to my mind was… failure. I had failed to be a member in the “Happily Ever After” club. It was my fault. It had to be my fault right? I mean, he left me! Poppycock! So he left me.
Seems to me he left a pretty amazing woman so he should be the one filled with doubt! Get righteous on yourself and realize who you are! I don’t feel hurt anymore. And though that took a bit of time to not feel that sting any longer, it has been replaced with confidence. I have been single long enough to see what a valuable person and partner looks like. And that’s me!
Any poor sap who leaves a well-educated, beautiful, and kind woman who gave him an adorable little family is ….well… just plain old dumb. There is no doubt that resides inside of me any longer. I exfoliated that all out and replaced it with a healthy glow of self-love and self-appreciation.
So scrub away the negative things in your life that are holding you back. Give yourself permission to promote, demote or terminate all that no longer serves your wellbeing which may have o include people. That is the best gift you can and ever will do for yourself!
Exfoliate and Carry On!
