Cooler temps are on their way. So how does this divorced mom plan to stay cozy in the months ahead? I’ve already started getting ready!
- Heated Mattress Pad. There are few things better than getting into a warm bed. I have always used an electric blanket but one day I went to get a facial and my esthetician had a heated mattress pad and I fell in love with it. I bought one for me and one for my daughter. The heat is awesome—it’s more subtle than a heated blanket and it doesn’t feel as heavy or suffocating to me. I highly recommend one. I purchased my on Amazon for under $50.
- Epsom Salts and Essential Oils. One of the most relaxing ways to call it a night is with a hot bath. I love to read a good book, soak in some soothing scents, and get warm. So my bath routine includes a big scoop of Epsom salts along with several drops of essential oils into my bath water. My favorites are lavender, lemon, and grapefruit. They are incredibly calming to my stressed out soul. I get my salts at Walmart for just a few dollars a bag. I use Doterra oils (www.doterra.com) because I have yet to find higher quality, more deliciously smelling options anywhere else.
- Diffuser. While I’m writing about scents, I also diffuse those same essential oils in my bedroom right before going to bed. Yum!
- Ugg Slippers. Great slippers are a “must” for me because my feet are always cold. I love Ugg slippers because I can also wear them out and about. The souls are the same as they are on boots, and they’re incredibly comfy.
- Body Butter. In the winter, my skin feels like a prune. Body butter is a thicker, richer lotion and I slather it on liberally during the winter. I just purchased some at Costco that is also organic so I’m not putting any funky chemicals on my skin.
- Argan Oil. These days, my eyes are so dry and no amount of eye drops are helping. I purchased a high quality Argan Oil and have started using it around the exterior of my eyes. It has helped immensely. I’m a huge fan.
- Peppermint Beadlets. Doterra (www.doterra.com) makes these tiny little beadlets with peppermint essential oils. I pop one in my mouth and it is like an amazingly refreshing peppermint bomb went off in my mouth. No amount of chomping on gum has the same effect. I carry my little vial of beadlets in my handbag at all times. After I eat something or drink a coffee, I use a beadlet or two and, like magic, all better. Plus, instead of chewing on chemicals (most gums), I’m just adding a little healthy peppermint oil to my diet.
- Fuzzy Socks. I went to the Dollar Store and spent $5 on five pairs of fuzzy socks. I wear them all over the house. They’re comfy, warm, cute and inexpensive. I love!
- Space Heater. I purchased a space heater at Costco last year that I never got around to using but, no doubt, I will when it gets cold this winter. I don’t sleep with space heaters on but I will run one for 15 minutes prior to bedtime to heat up my bedroom if it’s really cold. It’s a nice backup plan.
- Teapot and Tea. I purchased the cutest bright yellow teapot that lives on my stovetop. I then went out and bought bags of chamomile and lemon organic teas. It’s a great way to go to bed—a cup of tea with some fresh lemon while I’m reading with my youngest daughter. Yum (and healthy). It triggers my own body’s natural desire to sleep and helps calm and center me. So, let’s see… tea, a bath, yummy smelling oils, a delicious smelling bedroom, a warm bed… Are we seeing a theme here?
