“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” – Bob Marley
Music has healing power. When I was separated from my husband and lying awake at night contemplating how I was going to make a better life for my children, music was the only thing that brought me solace. I clung desperately to my love for music, eventually channeling my passion into a new career. Relying on my own reserves of strength and the support of my family, I was able to piece together a new life for myself and you can too. Divorce can create utter chaos in your life. You should use every tool available to summon the courage, strength and resilience you will need to get through this difficult time.
Here are 5 inspirational songs to help you heal during divorce:
1. Survivor by Destiny Child:
Lyrics: “Now that you’re out of my life, I’m so much better. You thought that I’d be weak without you, but I’m stronger.” Divorce is tough, but you are tougher. You will survive it!
2. Forget You by Cee Lo Green:
Lyrics: “I pity the fool that falls in love with you.” Play the PG version when you’re at your best and the R-rated version in those “unforgiving” moments!
3. Since U Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson:
Lyrics: “Since you’ve been gone, I can breathe for the first time.” Exhale ladies, and then move on.
4. Wrong Man by Anita Baker:
Lyrics: “I’d rather lose you than to lose my mind.” A little encouragement for those days when you are uncertain you made the right decision. Oh yes, you did.
5. You’re No Good by Linda Ronstadt:
Lyrics: “Feeling better now that we’re through. Feeling better ‘cause I’m over you.” A little pick-me-up to help you see the sunshine through the rain.
What songs do you have or, did you have on your “divorce playlist?”
