BROKE!
We have all been there and if you are like me, you don’t have a money tree growing in your backyard either. I have found that sitting at home eating ramen noodles and dark chocolate chip morsels straight out of the bag does not make me feel any better about my financial status either.
Yeah, it sucks not having the disposable income we once had, where family vacations, shopping sprees, and spa days were no big thing. But now as a divorced parent, we must be more conscious of our spending habits now that we are down to only one income.
I am a simple gal. I do not have to go on an elaborate weekend getaway or keep up with the latest and greatest trends to make me happy.
If you are a hum-drum woman like me, here are nine things that are fun and inexpensive to do that will keep you entertained:
1. Running/Walking:
OK, if you have read my other articles you know that I am a runner so I had to throw this out there! Running is free! Even if you do want to participate in a fun run and/or 5k, the entry fees are relatively cheap and you get a t-shirt when you sign up! I consider that a win!
2. Mani/Pedi:
Who says you can’t afford a little R&R after a divorce? A manicure and/or pedicure can be pricey, but I’ve found affordable places in my area that do an amazing job. You don’t have to go to an upscale salon or spa to get your nails or toes done. I’ve found the little shops do a better job anyway.
3. Karaoke Night:
It is nice to go out on the town with friends every once in a while and channel your inner Adele. Most places have karaoke nights and many offer ladies nights where there is no cover charge and the drinks are cheap.
4. Live Music:
The cover charge is usually affordable. Get out and go listen to a favorite local band. You can meet new people this way, too!
5. Bowling:
Who doesn’t love to bowl!? And beer too!? Count me in! The shoes are pretty snazzie as well, I must say. This is also a great way to spend time with the kids.
6. Movies:
Sure, the delicious junk food they sell at the theater will cost you an arm and a leg, but that is why you carry a large purse. Just saying…
7. Take a stroll:
Do you live in an area with any kind of tourist attractions? Usually, we take advantage of things in our area that people travel hundreds of miles to see! Check out a visitor center nearby and see what your city has to offer. There are all kinds of museums and tourist attractions out there that are typically free or cheap. Get out and explore your town! You may learn about something that has been sitting right under your nose!
8. Library:
Yes, libraries still exist and they are amazing. I find them relaxing and the time simply melts away when I am there. They also offer different programs and have ongoing events that can be fun for you and your children.
9.State Parks:
They can be free or cheap! Either go with friends or take the kids! Hiking trails, picnics, camping, and so much outdoor fun! My children and I have a blast at the local swimming areas during the summer.
So, get out there, have fun and live a little! You do not have to go out and spend a ton of cash to have a good time!
Do you have any other fun ideas you can add to the list? Please feel free to share!
