It turns out that there are MORE than just the rocking apps I originally listed for divorced moms. Let your mind wander with all the free time you’ll have when organizing your life with these free helpers.
Listed as one of Time Magazine’s Top 10 Back-to-School apps, myHomework is a cross platform, free organizer and student planner. Best of all, it does not require network connectivity to use. Track homework, get reminders, show class schedules, and sync it all to every one of your devices. You may think about using it for your kids but what about your own schedule as you head back to school to refresh your job skills?
Available only for Mac, SelfControl is a free app that allows you to set up your own blacklist of distracting websites, mail servers, or anything else on the internet. Set up a timeframe you would like to block and stand back. You will not have any access to those sites until the timer you set expires. What a way to keep kids concentrated on homework. Or to keep you from stalking your ex’s Facebook page.
You’re on a budget. You’re surviving on one income. What better time to make sure you take advantage of all of those perks that normally get forgotten. It’s like finding $20 in your winter coat pocket.
“CardStar eliminates wallet and keychain overload by consolidating your membership and rewards cards with a single free app.”
Now you’ll never miss out on those grocery store deals because you forgot your loyalty card. (Sometimes you just don’t have time to wait in line at Customer Service, am I right? Anyone with a toddler knows that potty emergencies occur when the lines are longest.)
Whether you like it or not, getting divorced requires recordkeeping. In my sister’s case, the maintenance and sale of her house have generated many pieces of paper that need to be tracked for splitting expenses. Items like ice melter, interior paint, dryer repair, and newspaper ads are all part of the financial items she tracks at her lawyer’s request. Eventually, when her home sells, she’ll be able to show why her cut of the proceeds should be more than 50% based on the upkeep she paid for out of her own pocket.
Use OneReceipt for expenses related to your children’s care as well. If ever you need to prove that you spent child support money on the children, you’ll have the proof in hand.
You know I can’t have a list with all work and no play.
Kids Doodle is a family-friendly, Android drawing app that is easy to use with bright neon colors. A built in gallery stores the masterpieces your children create. There’s even a movie mode which plays back the drawing process so you can see the artwork come to life.
It may say “Kids” but I’ll admit to doodling with it just as much as my youngsters.
Leave it to the people at Sesame Street to create an app to help kids cope with divorce. Focused on children between the ages and 2 through 8, this app deals with the many changes children face. Available for both Android and iPhone.
The internet is filled with helpful articles, tips, blogs (like DivorcedMoms) and interesting stories. Sometimes you stumble across something that you’d like to save for later but don’t want to add yet another bookmark to your ever-expanding list. What to do?
This is where Pocket shines. While in your browser, click Share>Add to Pocket and you can read the article later when you have a quiet moment. I have hundreds of articles, videos and photos in my Pocket, ready for review on all of my devices when I feel like it. Never again will I lose an interesting article because I can’t find the link.
Countdown Widget by SMSRobot
Not technically an app, this widget answers the perpetual question, “Are we there yet?” only with time. How many days until your court date? How many days until your vacation starts? How many days until that big project is due? Set up multiple widgets on your phone’s home screen and you’ll always know the answer.
