“You’re stepping into some high cotton!”
You never know what surprises are waiting around the corner. I’ve always found life’s mysteries to be magical and wonderous. Wouldn’t it be boring, if we already knew how our lives would unfold?
During my twenties, I had planned out the rest of my life, from how many babies we would have, a comfortable life as an officer’s wife, choosing a career in teaching because it was perfect while raising a family (emphasis on his career versus my own), how much we would have saved in our retirement plans, where we would travel after retiring and living happily ever after.
My life seemed perfect . . . then it all changed in a blink of an eye.
I wasn’t expecting the surprise that was waiting for me around the corner. No one does. Life hasn’t been the same since and has always been full of unexpected lows and highs. From crying over broken clutch repair bills costing $2,000, during years of furloughs as a broke single mom to becoming a popular published blogger for women around the world.
Life is always interesting. I wouldn’t want it any other way. Never boring. Always filled twists and turns.
Instead of fighting it, I have decided to embrace the mystery that which we call life.
Well, I had the most wonderful surprise, on the morning of my arrival in Tokyo, which I am still smiling just thinking about it.
I am so excited to share this news with all you! I cannot even believe it myself. As was checking my emails, while waiting for the Tokyo train to Shinjuku, I received the most wonderful email, stating that one of my writings was profiled on Maria Shriver’s blog for Inspirational Stories for Architects of Change.
I had to do a Scooby Doo double take. Did I just read Maria Shriver?!?!?!
Woot! Woot! As one of my favorite sassy southern ladies said, “You are stepping into some high cotton!”
As I said, you never know what is around the corner. Seriously, the amazing journalist Maria Shriver!!!
Take a moment to read my article My 7-Day No Spending Money Challenge: 3 Truths on Maria Shriver’s wonderful blog. Not only am I honored, she would consider me an architect of change, but I thrilled to be able to share my experience as a single mom on this progressive platform.
What is even crazier, just a few days before, I was watching a preview for her new HBO documentary Paycheck to Paycheck, a documentary following the life of a single mother, on the brink of poverty. As I was watching this, I was thrilled Maria Shriver was sharing the story of millions of single moms across our country.
I’ve always admired her intelligence, compassion, and commitment to helping those in need.
Call me crazy, but I believe what you focus on expands. Our thoughts manifest into our realities. Wouldn’t it be cool if I manifested Maria Shriver into my life? LOL. Maybe I should be thinking about Oprah too! Better yet, Channing Tatum? A girl can dream, right?
I hope you enjoyed a little bit of big news in the world of Sweet Cicily! Remember, keep believing in in the beauty of your dreams!
Love,
Sweet Cicily
