Alex is part of The Core Group at Morgan Stanley, which he co-founded in 1995 with his partner and Financial Advisor, Grant DeVaul at Bear Stearns. He works with successful entrepreneurs and their families in developing and implementing appropriate investment strategies. He also focuses in divorce financial strategies.
Alex builds on a wealth of experience, prior to joining Morgan Stanley he spent nearly 20 years as a Senior Managing Director in the Private Client Division of Bear Stearns, where he played an integral role in creating and implementing the firm’s wealth management platform. His knowledge of investment management spans investment policy, money manager selection, alternative investment allocation and performance monitoring. He spearheads our research, evaluation and selection of investment advisors and alternative investment managers.
A native of Lincoln, MA, Alex earned his BA in Finance from the University of Denver.
Alex was recognized in the Financial Times 400 Top Financial Advisors in 2014. He serves on the Board of Hillside School, a private boarding school located in Marlborough Massachusetts, as well as the Board of The Walden Forum, an independent free public speaking series promoting education, and learning. In addition, he is also a member of the Boston Estate Planning Council, which promotes the understanding of relationships between estate, tax, insurance and wealth planning professionals. Other charitable organizations include Mass General Hospital, Children’s Hospital, and the Media and Technology Charter High School.
Grant DeVaul

Grant is part of The Core Group at Morgan Stanley. He works with entrepreneurs and their families to develop and implement appropriate wealth management strategies. He concentrates on managing appropriate fixed income and equity portfolios for clients and is responsible for product strategy. Grant brings nearly 20 years of experience to The Core Group. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, he co-founded and managed The Core Group with Alex Sugar in 1995 at Bear Stearns.
Grant studied political science at Arizona State University, where he also served as the Field Coordinator for the Bush Quayle ’92 presidential campaign. This fueled his lifelong passion for news and current events.
Grant and his wife are committed to philanthropy, with a particular focus on education for the underprivileged communities in Los Angeles. He serves on the board of 826 LA, which helps students ages 6-18 pursue creative and expository writing.
Alex Davis

Alex is part of The Core Group at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. He has 12 years of experience in managing client and family relationships in The Core Group’s wealth management practice. He focuses his efforts on client communications and maintaining the highest level of service within the group. Alex began his career in 1993 with a start-up computer reseller Catalink Direct. Two years after their 1995 4th quarter IPO, Alex made a career change by entering the training program at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. He has been with The Core Group since 2002 and joined the predecessor firm of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney in 2008 from Bear Stearns. Alex has been named in Boston Magazine as one of New England’s FIVE STAR wealth managers from 2010 – 2012. He resides with his wife and son in Newton.
