Valerie Hein Hunter, Family Law Attorney
I am a mother, step-mother, second wife, step-daughter, daughter of divorced parents and divorce lawyer. I have had experience dealing with divorce and extended family units for as long as I can remember.
I grew up with two sets of parents who didn’t get along at all. Now I live in the same neighborhood as my husband’s ex-wife and she is our daughter’s godmother. My parents avoided being in the same room at all costs when I was young. My husband and I routinely get together for events, parties, and dinner with his ex-wife and her husband.
My step-daughter lives with each of us exactly half the time and we all make it work for her. But, I also deal with clients on a daily basis who have such awful home situations that this type of relationship just isn’t possible. I advise these clients on what legal measures should be taken to make the divorce go as smoothly as possible, and I talk to them about the personal/emotional aspect of this process.
But I am more than just an attorney, mom, step-mom, wife, etc… I am a gardener, drawer, painter, writer, runner, flutist, and do-it-yourself-er; and this is what many women need to be reminded of when going through a separation and divorce. You are more than your marriage, and now is the time to rediscover all those wonderful things that make you who you are.
I am a family law attorney practicing in Charlotte, North Carolina. I am also a member of The National Trial Lawyers Association: Top 100 Trial Lawyers and the Global Directory of Who’s Who Among Women Attorneys.
