I walk 3.5 miles every day. The doctor told me that women “of a certain age” have to exercise at least 60 minutes daily in order to maintain their current weight and fitness level.
Maintain! If that wasn’t depressing enough, last night’s music selection surely had me on the edge of the precipice looking into the abyss.
It seems that the people over at Google aren’t content with letting me know about Husband #2’s departure via Google Maps alone. As if seeing the overhead shot of the driveway sans the H#2 mobile isn’t enough… now they are fiddling (purposely, I’m sure) with my Google Play Music app.
Come on, does it have to be so blatant?
Here’s what cued up after I hit the Random button on my phone:
Message in a Bottle, by the Police. “Another lonely day, no one here but me”
Back to Black, by Amy Winehouse. “You went back to what you knew, so far removed from all that we went through.”
Somebody to Love, by Queen. The whole song is just a heart break.
Please Stay, by Marvin Gaye. “I won’t be able to sleep peacefully in bed without you beside me darlin’, darlin’ anymore.”
Tainted Love, by Soft Cell. “Don’t touch me please, I cannot stand the way you tease.”
Dust in the Wind, by Kansas. “All we are is dust in the wind.”
Counting Stars, OneRepublic. “Everything that kills me makes me feel alive.”
You’re Beautiful, by James Blunt. A whole song about an inaccessible partner.
Please Don’t Leave Me, by Pink. Pick a line, any line.
I started out at a brisk pace but each subsequent song added to my shoulder slump and dragging feet. Just as I was about to throw myself under the next passing bus, the powers that be decided I had enough and skipped over to Katy Perry.
So I leave you with the lyrics to Firework. I’m off to put together a purposeful playlist…
Do you ever feel like a plastic bag Drifting through the wind Wanting to start again
Do you ever feel so paper thin Like a house of cards One blow from caving in
Do you ever feel already buried deep Six feet under screams But no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there’s still a chance for you ‘Cause there’s a spark in you
You just gotta ignite the light And let it shine Just own the night Like the fourth of July
‘Cause baby you’re a firework Come and show ’em what you’re worth Make ’em go “oh, oh, oh!” As you shoot across the sky-y-y
Baby you’re a firework Come and let your colors burst Make ’em go “oh, oh, oh!” You’re gonna leave ’em falling down down down
You don’t have to feel like a waste of space You’re original, cannot be replaced If you only knew what the future holds After a hurricane comes a rainbow
Maybe a reason why all the doors are closed So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow And when it’s time, you’ll know
You just gotta ignite the light And let it shine Just own the night Like the fourth of July
‘Cause baby you’re a firework Come and show ’em what you’re worth Make ’em go “oh, oh, oh!” As you shoot across the sky-y-y
Baby you’re a firework Come and let your colors burst Make ’em go “oh, oh, oh!” You’re gonna leave ’em all in awe-awe-awe
Boom, boom, boom Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon And it’s always been inside of you you you And now it’s time to let it through
‘Cause baby you’re a firework Come and show ’em what you’re worth Make ’em go “oh, oh, oh!” As you shoot across the sky-y-y
Baby you’re a firework Come and let your colors burst Make ’em go “oh, oh, oh!” You’re gonna leave ’em all in awe awe awe
