There are two things I love to do with other people:
- Traveling
- Eating out
I’m all about the shared experience. With traveling, I get to explore and discover and work as a team to do things that are outside of my comfort level. Having a traveling companion means collaboration and negotiation, fitting the interests of both parties into a relatively short amount of time. After all, you can’t do everything in a week’s vacation.
Dining for two is another collaboration and negotiation. Finding new restaurants… feeling like Mexican when your dining partner wants burgers… Trying bits and bites off of each others’ plates… And the ever popular, sharing a bottle of wine!
And there are two things I hate doing alone:
- Traveling
- Eating out
I’ve tried both by myself and it isn’t as fulfilling. At least not for me. Even a simple car ride is frustrating. If I see something interesting, beautiful or down right amazing, there’s no one to share it with. And that’s frustrating to me.
I miss having someone across the table. I miss being able to offer up a delicious bite from my graciously shared plate. There’s no one to converse with about the interesting dishes on the menu or the snazzy decor of the restaurant. And I certainly can’t drink a whole bottle of wine by myself.
For the time being, I’m putting both of these activities on hiatus while I find a travel buddy and a dining partner. I’ll find some other solitary activity to occupy my free time.
