The holidays means lots of opportunities to get out and about. From the company Holiday party, to your child’s choir performance, to church Christmas gatherings, to your friends’ cookie exchange, to New Year’s Eve… But the Big Question is always what to wear. But with a three outfits in your closet, you’ll be stylish at every event.
Dressy
For events that are dressier, like a company holiday party or New Years Eve gala, the LBD is an essential wardrobe staple. You can literally wear it during any time of year and at a variety of functions. So if you don’t have a great black dress yet, spending the money on one is a good investment. I just bought this dress at White House Black (www.whitehouseblackmarket.com) for just $130. It’s really fun and festive, and a little unexpected with the fringe.
Another fun option is a black flair skirt with a party top. My cousin just purchased this skirt at Express (www.express.com) on sale for $39.95.
The party top is an essential part of this outfit. I found this one at White House Black Market for $88.
For shoes, especially over the holidays, I’m a big fan of gold or silver. Find some with some sparkle. Years ago, I purchased two pairs of Stuart Weitzman strappy sandals in silver and gold. They were a bit pricey but I wear them again and again. If that’s outside your comfort zone, simple black sandals always work perfectly.
If you’re looking to keep it simple on the jewelry, find some bejeweled earrings like these.
And lastly, don’t forget the cute clutch or handbag. Something simple and small that’ll fit your essentials– like keys and lip gloss. You can find one at H&M for almost nothing. Also, check out Walmart, Target, and discount stores like Ross and TJ Max. If you have more cash to spend, Ann Taylor and Banana Republic have great options.
Semi Dressy
For a dressier dinner party, your neighbor’s Holiday gathering, a concert, or even a tree lighting, finding that perfect “in between” outfit can be a challenge. Start with simple black pants and that party top (see party top above).
Velvet pants are an awesome choice. I found some at White House Black Market just a few weeks ago. Also, at Costco, I picked up a pair of faux leather leggings for under $10. You can either wear those strappy sandals suggested above or even a great pair of black boots.
Casual
For the festive outdoor affair, a try wearing those velvet pants of leggings, black boots, a beautiful sweater in red, cream or grey, a hat and scarf combo, and a pea coat. I also found a pair of winter-white jeans that I love, which is another great option. White after Labor Day but before Memorial? The answer is… absolutely YES! And very fun.
