Summertime in the South has gotten so short! My poor kids were not ready to go back.
Plus the older ones were used to staying up until very late (much after I was asleep) and then sleeping until 11. Today was a killer.
Poor thangs. I wasn’t really ready either.
Stanley came in at 5 yesterday for nest duty and as prearranged, I also stayed to help the kids get to bed on time and so that we could do first day morning together. It went smoothly but I didn’t sleep at all. Nerves I guess, knowing that the alarm was going off at 6:15, plus Merlot appeared in my bed before I had even gone to bed. She is precious but a sleep ninja practicing her moves in the bed.
So Stanley and I drove together with the girls and walked in them in with their school supplies, giving pep talks and rubbing backs. It was good to show we were both there and behind them. I saw several people at the school do a double take when they saw him as I am always there for PTA stuff and it has been awhile for him. We drove back to the nest in my car and he went on to work. It was almost comfortable.
I came in and it was quiet.
SOLITUDE.
I did dishes and laundry and chores. I even vacuumed and enjoyed the novelty of not having kids whining because they ‘couldn’t hear their show!’. I did a little work even. And then I took a nap.
FOR SHAME.
My poor tired kids are at school and I took a nap. I had a moment of guilt. Then snoozed away. I even had dreams.
Prior to closing my eyes, I had a text from Al.
FBE (Al) is the most romantic man ever. I told him that I was sleepy and that I need ‘my spot’. (My spot is the place between his chest and shoulder where my head fits perfectly).
His reply:
Your spot needs you badly. You could sleep and I would
breathe you in and fill you with love and solitude.
Don’t be a hater.
I slept for 2 hours. Aaaahhhhh.
Today has been a good day.
