I recently saw this article posted on HuffPo
and so of course I had to torture myself and read.
I wanted to see their #1 pick,Take This Waltz
because I really like Michelle Williams.
I don’t really know why other than
I just think she is sort of impossibly cute but
someone that isn’t so gorgeous you can’t relate to.
Michelle is in 2 of their Divorce Movies Worth Watching
the other being Blue Valentine which I’ve seen
and which was much darker than this movie.
Take This Waltz happens to be on cable this month
so it was on the very next night. It was one
of those coincidences in life that just freakin happens.
I wish I could see a movie about winning the lottery andthen win the lottery the next daybut that NEVER happens.
*I’m going to try not to, but there may be spoilers ahead.*
So, MW is married to Seth Rogan. And they have this sweet relationship, no kids, but they are sweet together. He does a good job in this dramatic role, but his laugh really, really grates on my nerves.
See, they have a loving marriage.
They do this little baby talk thing and have some little
games they play about how much they love each other.
(baby talk)
“I wuv you thiiiiiis much” All fine, until this guy keeps showing up in her life.
Coincidence? Or Fate?
Da DA DUM!
Hotter than Seth Rogan without the annoying laugh.
But she loves her husband although she is sort of intrigued by hotness.
<
and then…
Husband does stupid things. As all spouses do.
Right when she has an intriguing thought on the side,
husband shuts her down a few times.
and I started to get squirmy because this starts
feeling familiar.
(and I’m thinking this is familiar to everyone married
divorced or not)
He rebukes her advances in the kitchen. He’s too busy.
That hurts her feelings.
Shut down.
They go to dinner for their anniversary.
and she tries to make conversation and he
says they don’t need to talk. They live together
after all. She said, “Then why go to dinner?”
He says, “For the wonderful food! But you know I love you.”
a huh, a huh, a huh
(his stupid laugh)
Shut down again.
And in reality that sort of thing happens all the time in every relationship.;
But she has this intriguing hotness who always wants to talk to her
when they run into each other, which is always.
“Talk? We don’t need to talk. You know I love you.”
vs.
“You are so interesting, I want to talk to you all day, errday.”
I’m not telling you anymore.
It just really made me think about relationships and how the little things you do that shut your partner down when they are making an effort to engage with you, do take their toll. As one little incident, no big deal, but over a period of time, you feel shut down too many times and you start to feel uninteresting and unsexy. When those little ‘shut downs’ are occurring at the same time as someone else is being intriguing, and making you feel interesting and sexy, well…
We all do the ‘shut down.’
I can remember doing it a billion times myself.
The hug in the kitchen while I was cooking that I gave one second of thought
and then sort of shrugged off because I was busy.
(inserted more examples then deleted because y’all get it.)
I could give a billion more examples of when he shut me down too.
Usually when I was trying to start a conversation.
(again I inserted examples and then deleted because it was just too boring)
I’m just going to dance with him because he thinks I’m interesting.
Really, when you consider the ‘SHUT DOWN FACTOR’ it is a miracle
that there aren’t constant affairs in every relationship.
One more interesting thing about this movie that all the
pervs who read my blog will enjoy.
There is a quite shocking shower scene with full on
nudity involving MW, Sarah Silverman and a
bunch of other women.
I was so surprised by it I choked on my Pinot Grigio.
“It’s fun to shower together!”
I will be much more mindful of the shut down
factor in my relationships going forward.
Too risky. Someone else might be finding them interesting and sexy.
