The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.
~ Albert Einstein.
- I was thinking about calling my brother. The phone rang. It was my brother, an unusual time for him to be reaching out to me.
- I was struggling to find a solution to a problem. I was considering and considering yet nothing was coming. I decided to leave it be and attend to something else. Suddenly the answer popped into my head.
- I had an intense reaction to someone I saw in a store, the hair on the back of my neck went up and my entire body went into a fight or flight reaction. I left immediately to find out later that he held up the shop owner by gunpoint.
Intuition:
Intuition is a natural ability or power that makes it possible to know something without any proof or evidence; a feeling that guides a person to act a certain way without fully understanding why.
Intuition is trusting your gut, that feeling or sense of knowing that is not attached to our logical thought process. Jonas Salk, who discovered and developed the first polio vaccine said, “Intuition will tell the thinking mind where to look next.” It is being open to that …
The more conscious we are, the less we are judging and the more unlimited our thoughts. This openness enables us to experience more compassion, peace, and joy. We are no longer mired in our reactions and experience a space between what is happening and our ability to witness, assess and respond with clarity.
Our new level of awareness enables us to tune into intuition. Of course, intuition is always present. However, when we are in reactive emotions of anger and fear, the chaotic noise of our logical mind with its myriad of thoughts drowns out any possibility of hearing the soft intuitive voice of our spirit.
The Work of Life Coaches
As coaches, we are often led by our intuition, asking questions that pop into our head with no understanding of why. Then the client unveils something so powerful or profound that it results in a significant insight and positive shift in how s/he relates to life and new actions s/he can now take.
When our judgment is turned down we are able to respond to situations rather than react to them. We become more creative and innovative. We become more aware of when we are making fear versus desire based decisions. Our level of clarity and engagement in life is high, enlivening our senses and opening channels of possibility that had not previously been available to us.
Honoring that quiet voice of intuition, which is a wisdom beyond ourself and can be viewed as God, spirit, or the universe speaking through us, requires faith and trust. It is worth listening to that quiet voice and considering its wisdom when determining next steps.
