There may have been a time in your life when you worried about what others thought of you. Perhaps you thought twice before saying what was on your mind, or you worried about the appearance of things. However, once you hit a certain age, it’s much easier to say, “What the hell.”
You have now reached an age where you no longer care what other people think of you. Instead, you’re ready to embrace who you truly are.
Here are 15 signs you’re passed the age of giving a damn.
1. You Realize Happy Is Defined Differently by Different People
If you realize happiness is something only you can define and you shouldn’t chase after what other people want, you’ll have reached that magic age where you no longer care what others have, want or, especially think about you. You’ll simply be happy for their fortune, happy for your own, and ready to embrace what life has to offer.
2. You Refuse to Get Involved in Drama
When you grow tired of manufactured drama, you will begin to avoid drama and the people who create it. After all, you have too many things to do to waste your time on such nonsense.
3. You Break The Rules
Even though you realize some rules are for the safety of society or to keep things running without chaos, you also realize some rules simply don’t make sense in every situation. You may choose to go in the “out” door or go through the checkout line with 11 items instead of 10. Or, date 3 men at once. It is, after all, your life, you make your own rules!
4. You Drink Wine When You Want
>If you want a glass of wine at 1 p.m., you go ahead and have it. After all, who cares what anyone else thinks. Haven’t studies shown a glass of wine here and there is actually healthy, too?
5. You Catch Yourself Saying, “In My Day…”
You no longer care if it makes you sound a bit dated. Things really were better years ago in some respects. You love the decade you grew up in, and you embrace it. And, you flaunt your age instead of deny it!
6. You Wear White Shoes Whenever You Want
Who can keep track of white shoes after Memorial Day and all that nonsense? If you want to wear white shoes, slacks or jackets, then you feel you’ve worked hard and earned the right to wear them, so you will put them on anytime you please. And, for that matter, anything else you feel good in!
7. You’ve Forgiven but Not Forgotten
You have forgiven those who’ve wronged you because holding onto that anger only hurts you. However, that doesn’t mean you’ve forgotten those actions or will subject yourself to that hurt again. Life is all about moving on, and you’re well aware of that. And, the less you give a damn, the easier it is to let go and move on!
8. You Still Believe in the Good of Others
Sure, you know some people are rotten to the core. There have been disappointments here and there and there will likely be more. However, most of the people in your life are good at heart and mean well.
9. You Know Who Your True Friends Are
At this point in your life, you know who you can count on and who you can’t. You have learned to limit your circle of friends to those who are there for you when you need them. To hell with everyone else. Who has time to waste on faux friends?
10. You Have a “Kills My Ass” Attitude
Done are the days of slumped shoulders and taking flak or even straight-up insults from your boss, family member, or unruly co-worker. A typical exchange might look something like this: “Oh cool, so I’m a cow? Well, that’s actually great. Awesome really. Native Americans believe that cows were touched by falling stars, so who is the real winner here, Kevin?”
11. You Enjoy Your Own Company
You love your family and friends and enjoy being around them, but you are also perfectly okay alone. You don’t need someone with your every minute to be content. The older you get, the more aware of the value of alone time!
12. You’re Able to Laugh Instead of Cry
Life throws some pretty hard punches sometimes, but you’re able to laugh at most of it. You’ve learned from experience things eventually get better. Joy is a choice most of the time, and not something that comes from outside but from the inner core of who you are.
13. Your Idea of Hell on Earth Is a Night Club
You’ve been there, done that, and have no desire to go back. The last place you want to be is some night club meeting people who may or may not be sincere. Instead, you prefer to hang with your inner circle and meet new people through them.
14. You Wear Your Pajamas to the Store at Midnight
If you are craving a carton of Death by Chocolate ice cream, you won’t hesitate to throw on some athletic shoes and traipse off to Walmart at midnight in your PJs. Who cares if someone you know sees you? They’re probably in their PJs, too. And, besides, you’re pretty damn hot in PJs!
15. You’re Not Afraid of Failure
You’ve failed in the past, picked yourself up and moved forward. Failure isn’t something to fear but something to overcome.
Recognizing how far you’ve come in your life and that you have reached an age where the little things no longer bother you proves you’ve reached just the right age. You’ve reached an age where you no longer give a damn about unimportant things. Your focus is on being positive and building the best life you can possibly build.
