Narcissistic Personality Disorder is a personality disorder in which people have an inflated sense of self-importance; they have a deep desire for excessive attention and admiration. They often experience troubles in relationships and difficulty empathizing with others.
The traits of people with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) are grandiosity, a lack of empathy for other people, and a high need for admiration. People with this condition are usually described as arrogant, self-centered, manipulative, and demanding.
Individuals with narcissistic personality disorder can surely cause problems in relationships and have a marked impairment in both social and occupational life. People with NPD may be disappointed and unhappy when they don’t get the appreciation and favors they believe they deserve.
ENDING A RELATIONSHIP WITH A NARCISSIST
Ending a relationship is not easy for a person with narcissistic personality disorder as it would disturb them and affect them mentally and emotionally. Individuals with Narcissistic Personality characteristics would blame the other person at the end of a relationship. To enhance their self-esteem, they’ll use projection as a defense mechanism in such situations. They may dramatically act or make promises that they’ll change for the good and try to make the relationship work, which is also nothing but another tactic to keep the relationship partner with them.
Individuals with such personalities believe that their needs are special and beyond the realm of ordinary people. They will likely insist on being only the top person in the relationship with more power to make a decision by using the impressive and dramatic flair of speech. They will try hard to keep their partners in their life, or some may argue to make an excuse with their partner to end their relationship. However, their emotions often seem to be turned on too quickly to be deeply felt, which may lead others to trust their feelings easily.

Emotional Intimacy
Individuals with narcissistic personality disorder may have trouble giving emotional intimacy in romantic relationships. Unconsciously, they often act out as victims in their relationships with others, especially with their partners.
They try to control their partners through emotional manipulation or seductiveness on one level while displaying a marked dependency on their partners on another level. Individuals with narcissistic personalities often have impaired relationships with same-sex friends because their sexually provocation self-obsessed style may seem like a threat to their friends and romantic relationships.
The feeling of being Unique
An individual with Narcissistic Personality Disorder believes that they are special and unique and can only be understood by or associated with other people with high status.
Need to be the center of attention
These individuals are obsessed with being a center of attention and sometimes isolate themselves when not getting enough attention they think they deserve. They find themselves in depression and anxiety when people ignore them, attracting others with their melodrama.
Delayed Gratification
People with NPD may crave novelty, stimulation, and excitement and become bored with their usual routine. Their actions are always directed at obtaining immediate satisfaction. Although they often perform a job or project with great enthusiasm, their interests lag quickly. They also neglect long-term relationships to make a new way for the excitement of new relationships.
Devaluation of others
People experiencing NPD may blithely assume that others should attribute the same value to their efforts and get surprised and short-tempered when they don’t feel the appreciation they think they deserve. They have a whole imagination running in their minds where they set expectations of how they should be treated and then feel left out when it happens otherwise.
They are often implicit in the inflated judgments of their accomplishments in an underestimation (devaluation) of the contribution of others. Moreover, these individuals are often envious of others or believe that others are envious of them. They may begrudge others their success or possessions, feeling that they better deserve those achievements and admiration.
Fantasize about being powerful
Persons with narcissistic personality disorder are often obsessed with fantasies of unlimited success, power, talent, beauty, or ideal love. They may ruminate about long-overdue admiration and privilege and compare themselves favorably with famous or privileged people.
Feel superior
Individuals experiencing narcissistic personality disorder may believe that they are superior, different, or rare among other people, especially to the people they are close with. Also, they expect others to recognize them with High-status and may attribute “unique, perfect, or gifted” qualities to those they are associated with.
Sense of entitlement
A sense of power is apparent in these individuals. They tend to have unreasonable expectations, especially favorable treatment from others because they think they deserve that. In addition, this sense of entitlement with a lack of empathy results in unconscious manipulation of others’ rights. They assume to be given whatever they desire or feel they need no matter what it means to others.
Lack of empathy
Individuals with narcissistic personality disorder generally show a lack of empathy and have difficulty recognizing desire, subjective experiences, and feelings. They are often disrespectful and impatient with others who share their own problems and concerns. They may assume that others are concerned about their welfare; they tend to discuss their concerns in inappropriate and lengthy details while failing to recognize that others also have feelings and needs.
